LASER BLEPHAROPLASTY
Definition:
Cosmetic laser blepharoplasty is surgery of the eyelids, both uppers and lowers, to remove skin and bulges to provide a more refreshed, youthful appearance.
The problem:
Upper eyelid skin ages and droops down onto the eyelashes. The membranes that hold back the fat around the eye weaken, and allow fat to bulge forward between the eye and the nose. Lower eyelid membranes weaken too, and allow fat to push forward … creating dark shadows and bulges under the eyes.
As these processes worsen, you or others begin to think of terms like baggy, saggy, tired, sleepy, droopy, bulging, old, or even unintelligent!
Botox®, Restylane®, Radiesse®, laser skin resurfacing :
All may be used in various ways as adjuncts around the eyes to combat the effects of aging; however, only blepharoplasty can give the dramatic long-lasting effect needed to turn the clock back 10-20 years.
The surgery:
I use the CO-2 laser to remove upper lid skin and fat, and to place the lid crease properly. Sutures are used and are removed in 1 week.
The laser also removes the protruding lower eyelid fat to flatten the bulges. No sutures or skin incisions are needed for lowers. Laser blepharoplasty is an in-office, local anesthesia procedure with IV sedation and monitoring by a CRNA.
The recovery:
There is always swelling, especially for the first four days following the surgery. My catch-phrase is "you look pretty good in a week and really good in two weeks!" You may return to work and normal activity when you feel like it, usually 2-7 days. Sunglasses can conceal all of the evidence. How you feel about your appearance around others is the ultimate limiting factor with regard to down time.
The eyes are the most dominant and powerful feature of the face, and maybe of the whole body.
Laser blepharoplasty will rejuvenate your appearance like nothing else can do!
