INTENSE PULSED
LIGHT (IPL)
PHOTOREJUVENATION
IPL is white light (not laser light) which, when
delivered to the skin in a series, is beneficial
to its color and texture. It counteracts the problems
of photoaging
“BROWN and RED”- Skin coloration problems mostly
involve pigment cells (brown) and fine blood vessels
(red). Pigment cells cluster and accumulate in the
form of age spots, freckles and irregular blotches
over the face, neck, upper chest, arms and hands.
IPL causes breakdown of pigment cells so that the
body’s macrophages can carry them away. Superficial
pigment responds easily to IPL, whereas deep pigment
such as melasma may require combining with other
methods (OBAGI products with RETIN-A, microdermabrasion,
chemical peels, etc.).
Rosacea is a common condition causing redness,
flushing, and broken capillaries over the checks,
nose, forehead, neck and chest. It is aggravated
by caffeine, heat, alcohol, spicy foods, rubbing
etc. It can be impossible to eradicate with medicine
or to completely conceal rosacea.
Poikiloderma is a sort of small dot-like pattern
of discoloration over the neck and chest, which
also responds to IPL.
IPL stimulates collagen formation and improves
skin tone, smoothness and softness. It is reported
to benefit large pores and fine wrinkles; however,
these effects are less predictable. Usual treatment
is a series of five 30-minute sessions at 3-week
intervals for photorejuvenation.
ACTIVE ACNE
IPL delivers light and heat energy (LHE®) deep
into the obstructed/injected pilosebaceous skin
gland which:
1) releases oxygen
2) kills bacteria
3) diminishes inflammation (redness)
4) assists in “unblockage” of pores
Up to 90% improvement over the typical 4 week treatment
course is the usual result.
